About Intergroup

CAPE COD INTERGROUP

Cape Cod Intergroup is a body made up of representatives from all AA groups in the area (Area 30). It has met on a monthly basis since it was established in the 1970’s. Each AA group elects, annually, one of its members (one year of sobriety recommended) to serve as its representative on this important committee, and, an alternate to regularly attend its meetings (one year of sobriety recommended).

Purpose

Our primary purpose at AA’s is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. Carrying the message is what coordinating AA activities in an area is all about. Bringing that message to the alcoholic who still suffers, then, is Cape Cod Intergroup’s main purpose.

It accomplishes this purpose in many ways: publishing The Sober Times, Cape Cod AA’s monthly newsletter; maintaining a twelve step list of volunteers; participating, along with General Service Districts 1 and 2, in AA committee work; maintaining telephone and in-person information and referral service; providing a central source for all AA materials, books, tapes, etc.; twice a year publishing the Cape Cod AA Meeting List and maintaining this website for those who are searching to find meetings or the message of recovery.

In order for AA as a whole to remain available as a dynamic, viable and effective force for sobriety and recovery, AA’s need to become involved in their groups and the groups need to become involved in the area and district activities. One way they can do this is by electing an Intergroup Representative.

What is an Intergroup Rep?

The Intergroup Rep is a person who is elected by his/her group to serve as a liaison between the home group and AA on Cape Cod as established and maintained by the action taken at the monthly meeting of Intergroup Reps. Every group on Cape Cod is entitled to be represented at Cape Cod Intergroup. Each group is encouraged to elect a Rep and an Alternate Rep. (A minimum of one year sobriety is suggested).

By choosing to send an elected rep to the monthly meeting, the AA group announces its willingness to participate in, and deal with, issues affecting AA as a whole. As AA grows, new problems and new issues arise. A healthy, viable Intergroup is a vital source of member input that assures AA’s message stays both consistent and available to all seeking help.

What happens at Meetings of Intergroup?

At the monthly meeting of Cape Cod Intergroup an agenda is followed which includes the reports of the secretary and the treasurer, AA committee reports, Area and District reports, and the office report. Any of these may be the source of a discussion which may come before the group as an issue requiring a vote or a consensus.

New business and old business are always present on the agenda and any Rep may bring before the group any problem or concern his/her home group may be having.

In addition, the Reps annually elect the Steering Committee to serve for a period of one year.

CAPE COD INTERGROUP STEERING COMMITTEE

The committee reviews issues or problems, discusses ideas and plans relevant to the body for discussion and or action.
